We caught up with Martin Parnell at the startline of the Calgary 150km Marathon.

While we went out to watch the Captain come in, we learned things didn't go as planned.

Martin knew going into the race that he had about a 50% chance of success in completing the run; although he was disappointed at first, Parnell focuses on what went right.

"My nutrition went well, no blisters, it was an incredible night we had northern lights all the way through the night, people were fantastic in the support. When I add it all up, and of course then with the fundraising, it was just an amazing event. I got to 95km, so it was a good go over 12 hours...I am not going to dwell."

As far as Martin's last fit tip, it is all about recovery. "This is the wrap up and absolutely critical. A lot of people think well the run's done and that's the end of it, but it's not. If you want to have a good recovery and really that is what we all want the moment the run's finished no matter what distance, get some fluids back into yourself and some food. What I recommend is chocolate milk, if you can have chocolate milk maybe a banana sometimes get whatever you can at the finish line there will be food and drink, don't bypass it, make sure you get that. Once you're done get a hot shower, some rest is critical, and then a couple days later a little bit of light recovery whether it be swimming, spinning on the bike, or a light recovery run...I am all about recovery, I don't want to be in pain for a week after."

Fundraising will remain open until June 7 for those who still wish to help a child in need, and can do so at www.martinparnell.com

Parnell will spend the next little while recovering, himself. "It's funny after any of these projects or quests I did there is always a little bit of letdown as to what's next but I am pretty happy. I've already got my next project in line, for Sue and I my granddaughter Autumn is coming over in July for two weeks and so we have to be in good shape for when she comes. She loves the outdoors; so we're going to go rafting, camping and stuff. So that is my next challenge."
