The Cochrane Piranhas continue to produce great results despite their intense schedule.

Competing in their second meet out of four this month, the Cochrane Piranhas had a good showing on Saturday (July 14). Forty-six swimmers showcased their skills at the Calgary Tritons Meet held at the Repsol Sport Centre in Calgary.

Head Coach, Breanna Hendriks says the kids continue to amaze her. "It was a great swim meet and a lot of best times as well. Even though they are still in hard training, they keep surprising me every swim meet."

Hendriks shares the swimmers' confidence is becoming much more apparent as many are beginning to challenge themselves by competing in events they have yet to try, like the 800-metre Freestyle. "They did great; we've done a lot of 400 m sets in workouts so they had an idea of what it would kind of be like but they shocked me by basically holding their 400 paces in the 800-metre race."

Also doing extremely well says Hendriks, are those in the Red Bellies division, the swimmers who started with basic skills. "You can really see the difference; they are starting to be more competitive because they know what to expect and now it's all about racing, having fun and improving their times. It's great to see their progression especially in the 25-metre Fly and 25-metre Breast Stroke, we're actually getting to where they can do the whole 25 properly, so it is pretty exciting."

With no rest for the wicked, the Piranhas will make a splash both tomorrow and Saturday (July 20 and 21) at the new Shane Homes YMCA in Rocky Ridge.
