Alberta's artistic swimming team has a slim lead over Quebec heading into tonight's final event at the Canada Winter Games.

Following their final technical routine, Alberta leads Quebec by less than one point heading into the final freestyle routine competition that begins shortly after 5 p.m. Alberta also held the lead in the preliminary round.

Adora Kruger, 18, of Cochrane, is one of the 10 athletes representing Alberta on the team. In the duet female event earlier in the games she and her partner Natalie Greenfield finished 11th overall. The Alberta duet of Jaime Czarkowski and Teah Hoffman struck gold for Alberta in that event.

Kruger is an accomplished synchronized swimmer who has represented Canada and Alberta at home and abroad while pursuing excellence in the sport since she was 7. Most recently, she was part of the Calgary Aquabelles team that won four medals at the nationals in April. She's a member of the Calgary Aquabelles that also offer some programming at Cochrane's aquatic centre.

Adora is following her the footsteps of her mother, Myrna, also a high-level synchronized swimmer who earned many honours and was a member of the national team. She's also an alumnus of the Calgary Aquabelles and is currently among their coaches.

Forty years ago, Myrna was on Alberta's team for the 1979 Canada Winter Games in Brandon, MN. That makes the Kruger's the only mother and daughter to both compete in synchronized swimming in the Canada Winter Games.
