The Cochrane Chaos female junior hockey team's loss to the league leading Central Alberta Amazons, Nov. 4, should setup an exciting rematch next Friday here in Cochrane.

The Amazons' Sarah Svenson scored the lone goal in what proved to be a 1-0 defensive battle in Penhold, AB.

Chaos head coach Derek Loomer says the teams are evenly matched and the Amazons defense succeeded in keeping the Chaos out of prime scoring zones.

The Chaos were particularly strong in the first period and Amazons' goaltending Nisa Bartlett came up with some big saves to keep the Chaos off the scoreboard. The Amazons were able to score first and protect the lead by dumping the puck out of their end.

"It was a frustrating game that way but at the same time it was a good game," says Loomer. "We had some good chance. The girls played hard and by no means do I think we were incapable of winning that hockey game; you just need a break here and there, too."

With the rematch just a week away, the Chaos are working on their strategy to hand the Amazons their first loss.

"When looking at the game that we played we have to work a lot harder to get shots from tighter in, create a lot more traffic in front of the net to get shots through. Scoring goals can be tough so you have to be willing to pay the price. For our girls it's going to be about getting more pucks into that blue pink and hammering away at it."

The Chaos have a solid grip on second in the south division of the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League with a 6-3 record. Two of their losses came in an early season road trip to the Edmonton area and they had been on an extensive winning streak before facing the Amazons.

The Chaos also continue to be the top offensive force in the league with 43 goals in 9 games, closely followed by the Sherwood Park Steele, who lead the north division.

The home game scheduled last Friday against the Lethbridge Eagles had to be cancelled due to poor road conditions and will be rescheduled.

The Chaos are on the road this weekend to face the Calgary Titans on Nov. 12 before their rematch with the Amazons here on Nov. 17 at Totem One in the SLS Family Sports Centre. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Special events are in the works for the Nov. 25 home game against the Fort Saskatchewan Fury. Watch for further details.
