Cochrane Minor Ball is getting ready to welcome another season.

Registration kicks off tomorrow (January 15) and Kayley MacLennan, Administration and Operations Coordinator, says they will once again have to cap numbers and registration will be done on a first come, first serve basis.

Last season, unfortunately, MacLennan shares some ballplayers were turned away and assumes they will have to do the same this year. "Last year we accommodated all most everybody, unfortunately, as we get to the older age groups we don't have the diamonds. We only have Mitford and the rodeo diamonds that are our big diamonds that work for the older age groups to play on so we're very limited on space. When it comes to t-ball and coach pitch we have a little more room because the smaller diamonds like Glenbow, Glen Eagles, Sunset, and this year the Fireside diamond that we didn't get last year will help with the younger ages, but it doesn't help our older ages."

Registering early will help Cochrane Minor Ball get a handle on numbers and player placement. Registration is made easy by following the baseball or softball tab breaking everything down by age, division, cost, and capacity. Besides the regular divisions, registration for a winter training clinic for junior, intermediate, and senior players in partnership with P3 Sports and Blast Ball for little ones (pre-t-ball) ages 4 and 5 also commences on the 15th.

MacLennan, says if you are new to baseball they have something for all abilities. "It's all grassroots, they don't need any experience. For coach pitch we are structuring a little different, we are going to tier it because we do have such a wide range of kids capabilities at the 7,8 age; some are really strong and some it is their first year playing, so we are going to tier it so no one gets hurt. When they get into minor the 9,10 age that is when they really learn baseball, the real mechanics. Coach pitch and t-ball it's everybody bats. "

Like many other recreational sports, Cochrane Minor Ball will look to the parents to volunteer for a smooth running season.
