The Bow Valley Bobcats have won their fourth tournament of the season heading into this week's divisional playoffs.

The Bobcats won Calgary's Crescent Heights Tournament and became the first Alberta team to put their name on the championship trophy other than the host team.

The Bobcats opened the tournament with a 50-44 win over 2A eighth-ranked Didsbury High before beating Edmonton's Bishop O'Leary High, 63-43. These big wins gave them a berth into the final against the host Crescent Heights Cowboys.

The first half was close, says Bobcats head coach Kris Nielson, with his team down by two. The Bobcats, though, pulled ahead by 10 in the third quarter and finished strong to win 58-51.

Jorja Powers was named tournament MVP. and three seniors--Hannah Bahrey, Morgan Boot and Trinity Doneff--all played some of their best basketball of the season and were named tournament all-stars.

"It was a great way to finish our regular season off with our fourth tournament win of the year. We're 24-5 going into playoffs," says Nielson.

By finishing first in Rocky View Sports divisional league, the Bobcats earned a bye from the quarterfinals that open Tuesday. They'll be hosting the winner of the Springbank-Chestermere game on Thurs. Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.

The Cochrane High Cobras, who finished second, host the Bert Church Chargers on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Should they advance, they'll also be on home court for a semifinal matchup on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.

In senior boys play, the Cochrane Cobras finished second in the RVS regular season and earned a bye into the semifinals on Feb. 28. They'll be hosting the winner of the Bert Church-George McDougall quarterfinal.

While updated Alberta Schools' Athletic Association rankings are expected to be released shortly, both the Cobras varsity boys and girls team received an honourable mention in the second ranking period.

The divisional finals are being hosted by Bert Church on Mar. 2.
