The 22nd annual CF Golf Classic will be teeing off at a new locale this morning (August 28).

After 21 years the annual fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis is moving from the Carstairs Golf Club to the Links of Glen Eagles.

Organizer Kayley(Collins) MacLennan, says that while Carstairs was an amazing venue they wanted to move the event home to where she has a ton of family and friend support.

The Collins family have been in the Cochrane area for decades and MacLennan thought it was time to host the event here in town. "Being local from Cochrane I really wanted that local community support; moving it to Cochrane I have been welcomed with open arms with how many donations I have received from the community. Cochrane has always been great for that, everyone really rallies together."

Moving the tournament to town has been beneficial in more ways than one. MacLennan, shares a record number of golfers will be competing in the Texas scramble tournament. "We are at 86, my goal was 80. Normally we hit around 50 to 60 people which is the most we've had."

While the tournament does raise a good amount of cash for Cystic Fibrosis, raising awareness about the silent killer is worth just as much. "My brother has Cystic Fibrosis and we have an eight year age difference so at a very young age I saw the challenges he had, and I saw him go in and out of the hospital on a constant basis; so for me, I lived that life with him. I feel that CF doesn't have a lot of awareness about it, especially adults with CF, so the tournament support for me is awareness for this fatal disease."

Advancements in prolonging life are getting better and better. "It used to be that a lot of kids didn't make it past their puberty years and into their 30's, and now life expectancy is (I believe) 52; so they've come along way."

The best ball tournament will tee off at pm and golfers will have an opportunity to compete for some amazing prizes. Mountain View Dodge is sponsoring hole 3 and will provide $10,000 toward a new or leased vehicle for a hole-in-one, while Riverside Insurance has $10,000 cash up for grabs if someone sinks a hole-in-one off of hole 12. While you may think there is no way someone could do it, MacLennan says it has been done before. "Three years ago at Carstairs, one of my bosses at the time did get a hole in one, so it happens...but we didn't have prizes back then. But he is golfing today so maybe he will get a second chance at that."

Besides golf, an amazing silent auction will be occurring as well as a wine raffle with over 30 bottles of wine. MacLennan is absolutely amazed and touched by the support she has received for this year's tournament,

We will connect with MacLennan on Wednesday to find out how the fundraising tournament did.
