The Cochrane Chaos hope to wrap up their south division semifinal series on Saturday against the Calgary Jag after winning game one here in Cochrane on Feb. 23.

Chaos head coach Derek Loomer says the bottom line is they won the game and they hope to win it two straight to advance to the south final of the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League (AJFHL).

"I think it would have been nice to get a couple more goals on the chances that we had," says Loomer. "We put in a really solid effort for the whole game but their goaltender, Shen Justason, has our number so we don't get to load up on the goals."

Brooklyn Bectold scored the only goal of the game in the second period, assisted by Elizabeth Wong.

The Chaos now head to the Great Plains Arena in southeast Calgary for game two this Saturday at 7 p.m. Should a rubber match be necessary, the series returns to Totem One in the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre on Sunday (Mar. 3) at 4 p.m.

"I think our girls are confident and determined to finish this out in two. The effort I know will be there and based on the different talent levels, we should be able to come out with the win in two. But hockey can be a weird thing some times."

Should they advance, the Chaos will retain home-ice advantage in the south final after finishing on top in the regular season.

In the other south series, the Central Alberta Amazons beat the Calgary Titans, 6-1, on the road. The Amazons are at home in Penhold for Game 2 on Saturday.

In the north, the defending champion Sherwood Park Steele won their series two games straight against the Fort Saskatchewan Fury. The Edmonton Wolves are up on the Irma Chargers with game two set for Friday night.

The north and south finals are both three-game series. The provincial final is a best of five that starts in mid-March.
