Chaos can set in when you least expect it.

Such was the case for the visiting Edmonton Wolves when they were in town take on the Cochrane Chaos in Alberta Junior Female Hockey League (AJFHL) action, Jan. 26.

Down 0-2 heading into the third, the Chaos rallied to claim a 3-2 overtime victory.

Audrey Buston has a hand in all three goals for the Chaos, scoring two, including the overtime winner, and assisting on the other.

She got the Chaos on the scoreboard at the 13:04 mark of the third before linemate Rebecca Toney tied it up with 1:05 remaining in regulation to force overtime.

Rebecca Toney tied the game with 1:05 remaining to force overtime.

Overtime last 2:28 after Buston was fed a lead pass for a breakaway on the Wolves' Ariana Kresic.

"I looked up and saw the open on the right side," says Buston, "So I took the best shot I could and it went in."

Cries of "offside" were voiced from the Wolves bench but the referees stood by their decision.

Chaos head coach Derek Loomer admits it was close, but it wasn't offside.

"I was watching very closely because it has happened before," he says. "It's where the skates are when the puck goes over, not the other player, so I thought she was OK."

The Wolves displayed an aggressive style of play and their heavy forecheck paid off in the first two periods. When they continued that same strategy in the third it opened up many two-on-ones and a breakaway for the Chaos.

"They're a very strong team and a very physical team and I know they got under our girls' skin in the first couple of period," says Loomer. But we regrouped in the second intermission."

The coaching staff told the Chaos they had nothing to lose in overtime and encouraged them to take chances.

"If we get the opportunity we've got to go for it because It doesn't cost you anything if you're scored on but you gain in percentage if you score. We just got the break and Audrey has such a terrific shot."

The win was crucial for the Chaos to stay in contention first-place place finish in the south. It was their first win in three games after tying Sherwood Park last weekend, then losing Friday night at home against the Calgary Titans, 2-0.

Loomer says the Chaos didn't capitalize on some of the opportunities early in the game against the Titans and weren't able to stage a comeback.

Buston, an alternate captain for the club, says last night's win was huge for the team.

"We really needed the momentum shift especially in the last stretch of the season. So it was a really, really big win for us and the girls came together and we got it done."

The Titans have a one-point lead after the weekend, but the Chaos have two games in hand.

The Chaos are off to Penhold this Saturday to play the third-place Central Alberta Amazons, then have a rematch against the Titans on Sunday in Calgary.

February 9 is their next home game against the Calgary Jag.
