The Cochrane Chaos are now 3 for 4 against the Central Alberta Amazons and are heading into the Christmas break at the top of the Alberta Female Junior Hockey League.

The Chaos took a 5-0 lead into the third and finished with a 6-2 win to earn top spot in the nine-team league.

The Chaos are on an eight-game winning streak that included two recent ones against the Amazon, who are proving to be their toughest opponent of the season so far. The Amazon's bench is short due to the Christmas college break and several of their key starters, including goalie Nisa Bartlett, weren't dressed for the game. The night before The Amazon lost 3-1 on home ice against the Calgary Warrior and are on a three-game losing streak.

"It wasn't the team we played the last three times," says Chaos head coach Derek Loomer, "but overall they played hard to the end like they always do. They were just short guns today and we took advantage of it. That's all I can ask the girls to do, play the team that shows up."

Loomer says the team is excited to be on top of the league and hope to pick up where they left off in the New Year.

"We have a 2 1/2 week break and we told the girls to make sure they take care of themselves and come back ready to play. If they do that, I think we'll start up right where to left off in that first game on Jan. 7. It's just a matter of showing up and turning it on again and seeing where we want to be."

The scoring continues to be spread around for the Chaos. Singles went to Kiera Davidson, Karly Dwyer, Faith Gette, Shelby Kirkpatrick, Breanna Martin and affilate Kalaina Kozak, who also had three assists. Cochrane's Kyla Kruger had a pair of assists and other helpers went to Ryann Altwasser, Aylson MacDougall, Kaylin Herman, Ciara McDonald, Kirsten Mumby, Shelby Kirkpatrick and Breanna Martin.

The Chaos are off until the Jan. 6 all-star game in Red Deer and just exactly who from the team will be playing in the north-south matchup hasn't been named. The Chaos have submitted their candidates and the teams will soon be selected. There's a skills competition in the morning followed by an afternoon game.
