The Cochrane High School has its second curling provincial championship banner to hang after the Cochrane Cobras girls team successfully defended their title in the Alberta Schools' Athletic Assoc. (ASAA) curling championships, hosted by St. Paul, Mar. 7 to 9.

It's been a stellar season for the rink, formed by skip Zoe Cinnamon, third Paige Roux, second Keeley Isinghood, lead Marisa Mueller and alternate Sydney Roux. Coached by Jenica Copithorne and Tammy Hodgson, the team had a 15-0 record through division, zones and provincials to claim the banner.

It wasn't without challenges, though. Their semifinal game against Delburne went into an extra end and an exciting final against Strathmore came down to the last rock in the eighth end, where Cobras skip Zoe Cinnamon scored two for the win.

Before advancing to the championship bracket, they handily beat Fox Creek, Barrhead, Camrose and St. Paul in their pool.

Zoe Cinnamon and Paige Roux were part of last year's championship team that also included Karly Macauley, Grace Prudden and Brooke Kindleman.

A team from St. Timothy High School also qualified for the provincials. The team barely missed the championship bracket after losing a tiebreaker to Delburne, 2-1, in an extra end. Prior to that they beat Jr Robson, Delburne, WR Meyer and lost to Strathmore in their pool's round-robin.

Delburne went on to win the bronze.
