There were many peaks and valleys in the boys varsity match between the Bow Valley Bobcats and Cochrane High Cobras, May 9, but at the end of the day the skermish ended in a 2-2 tie.

It wasn't until late in the first half that the Cobras drew first blood on a goal by Johnny Kerr. They made it 2-0 on a free kick by Mitchell Wright near the halfway mark of the second half. The Bobcats rallied their team and regained momentum after Max Pherson came in alone to score. A penalty shot tied the match and once again game was on, but time dictated a draw.

Cobras Carolyn McLeod said it was a good match and both teams had their chances to put it away.

"It was a really good game, it was evenly match. We knew what they had, we knew they had speed and they had power and a backline we have trouble getting past. We had chances, they had chances."

With their youngest team in years, she says the players are improving with each passing game.

"We're still on the upswing here," says McLeod. "Our boys are going to get better every game. We have guys who are just learning this game, but really want to be here."

It's the Cobras' second tie of the young season. They tied George McDougall, 5-5, in their season opener.

The Bobcats appeared to carry the first half but couldn't put the ball away. Bobcats coach Rob Kimura believes their play improved as the game progressed and felt they had a stronger second half.

With a 17-member roster, the Bobcats have yet to lose in their first three outings. They dominated Chestermere, 5-1, in  in their season opener, then tamed George McDougall, 7-4

The Bobcats get a break for the rest of the week and the Cobras have two more games. They're on the road tonight (May 10) to take on Bert Church and then are home against Chestermere, Thursday.

The Bobcats head to Springbank on May 16 and two days later play on WH Crawford's field.
