Cochrane hockey player Sarah Wozniewicz will be heading to the Canada Winter Games as part of Team Alberta.

(Photo Courtesy of Hockey Alberta)Yesterday, Hockey Alberta unveiled the 20-player roster for the U18 women's team that will be competing in games being hosted by Red Deer, Feb. 24 to Mar. 2.

Wozniewicz currently plays the Edge School and last season was a member of the midget Airdrie Lightning after playing hockey in Cochrane. She has a wealth of hockey experience at the provincial level, playing in both the 2016 and 2018 Alberta Winter Games as well as in the 2017 Alberta Challenge.

During the 2018 Alberta Winter Games in Fort McMurray in February, she showed her offensive prowess with four goals and two assists in five games. She was part of the Zone 2 team that went on to win the gold medal

The Team Alberta selection process began with a spring camp in May, followed by July and September camps.

The Alberta women's team is a two-time gold medalist at the Canada Winter Games, most recently in 2011 in Halifax, NS. Alberta won the inaugural gold medal in 1991 in Charlottetown, P.E.I., the first year women’s hockey was incorporated into the games.
