The Cochrane Skating Club kicked off their competitive season in a big way last weekend (December 7-9) in Okotoks at the Calgary Region STARSkate Invitational.

Twenty-one skaters from the Cochrane Skating Club competed in twenty-four events over the three-day competition featuring competitors from Calgary, Okotoks, Lethbridge, Airdrie, Banff, High River, Chestermere and Kimberly clubs.

Out of more than 500 skaters, Coach Karen Alison was thrilled with our club's performance. "The club had a strong showing and we had skaters compete at all levels from our little STAR 1's all the way up to our STAR 6 and we had some really great results at this event; it was a good start to our competitive season."Kaitlyn Eiserman also brought home a bronze medal for her performance.

Alison shares once again Cochrane is looking strong on the ice and the skater's results support that. "Everybody had a great weekend. Our STAR 6 ladies had Taylor Kaarto and Evelyn Archibald both earn a bronze medal, even though they were in different flights, so that was a highlight for them and then right down to our STAR 1 skaters earning gold report cards was pretty special as well."

December is generally a slower pace month for the club which will host an informal mini Christmas skating pop concert for family and friends next Tuesday evening (December 18) before training picks up speed in preparation for their next competition before heading off to the 2019 East Kootenay Invitational, January 11th through the 13th in Invermere, BC for the first time as a club.

As a last reminder, winter registration is open with only a few spots remaining for those interested in CANSkate and Learn to Skate programs, which you can do HERE.
