Team Canada has one win under their belt in the preliminary round of the 2018 IIHL World Junior Championships.

The Canadians cruised to a 3-1 lead after the first and added a fourth in the second period to double the Finns, 4-2, on the Boxing Day opening of the championships being hosted by Buffalo, NY.

Cochrane's Dillon Dube didn't register a point in the game but dons a 'C' upon his jersey as team captain. It follows on the steps of previously being named captain of the WHL entry into the Canada-Russia junior series in early December.

Canada takes on Slovakia today at 5 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, then there's a day a rest. The much-anticipated matchup against a strong American squad is on Friday at 1 p.m. MST.

The preliminary round ends Dec. 31 and the quarterfinals open Jan. 2.

Dube is a returning member of last year’s silver-medal team that fell to the Americans in an unceremonial shootout. Like the rest of the five other skaters, it's a chance for redemption.
