An exciting rematch is in the works tonight (Feb. 6) between the junior girls Cochrane High Cobras and Bow Valley Bobcats.

Mere points have separated the teams in their early matchups and so far the Cobras have come out on top. Playing at home tonight at 6 p.m., the Bobcats hope the scoreboard favours them in what is the two's first Rocky View Sports (RVS) league game this season.

The two teams have appeared in two tournaments together and the Cobras have come away with two gold medals and the Bobcats two silvers. Overtime determined the first win here at the Cochrane Classic and one-point separated the two at a recent Canmore tournament.

It's an important game for both teams, says Bobcats head coach Kris Nielson. It will determine who will finish first in the RVS regular season and will set up playoff matchups.

In the second game of the night, the senior girls' Bobcats are hosting the Cobras. Tthe Cobras are currently second in RVS league play with a 3-1 record and the Bobcats have lost their only two games of the season.

In other Rocky View Sports play this week involving Cochrane teams, the junior boys Cochrane Cobras are at home against the Bow Valley Bobcats on Feb. 7. The senior boys' Cobras are on a bye week.

Silver for Jr. Bobcats in Bert Church Invitational

The jr. girls Bobcats have returned from the Bert Church Invitational with a silver medal after a hard-fought final against the W. H. Croxford Cavaliers. They also had two players named tournament all-stars.

The Bobcats had a 10-point lead early in the second half but, as they did in league play, the Croxford team whittled away the lead and went on to win 55-47 in the dying minutes of the game.

Prior to this, the Bobcats beat a tough Drumheller team, 39-27, who went on to win the consolation event. A 57-39 win over George McDougall Mustangs set up the final against the Cavaliers.

Sadie Nielson, who had a game high of 19 points in the final, and Kenzie Laidlaw were both named to the tournament all-star team.
