Four Cochrane Minor Hockey girl players have made the roster for the Olds Grizzlys Bantam 'AA' elite female hockey team and two have been named to the team's leadership group.

Mikayla Blomquist and Anjali Simms, who are in their first season with the club, have been named alternate captains for the elite team. Also selected for the team were Rowan Bremner and returning second-year player Alyssa McCasey.

With a roster of 16 players selected from a large region, Cochrane female players continue to make their mark in minor hockey. It's believed to be the most players on the elite team with roots in Cochrane Minor Hockey.

There's tough competition to get a spot on this and the other 11 teams in the provincewide league. After their first camp, the team was cut down to 24 players and three sessions later the Grizzlys came up with their final roster of 16, explains Krista Wilson, who is in her first year as head coach and was previously an assistant coach.

The Grizzlys will be seeing much of the province this season, travelling as far north as Grande Prairie, south to Lethbridge and east to Lloydminster. They split their twice-weekly practices between Olds, Bowden and Cremona.

In support of breast cancer research, the team is donating proceeds from all its 50-50 raffles in October. The Grizzlys open their season on Oct. 20 at home against the Sherwood Park Royals.
