It seems no one in the south division of the Heritage Junior Hockey League can charm the Coaldale Copperheads like the Cochrane Generals.

On the road on Saturday night, the Gens beat the south leading vipers, 5-4, and are now a perfect 2-0 against the club this season.

This time, though, it didn’t take overtime. The Gens took a 2-1 lead into the second and made it 5-2 after two. The vipers made a valiant comeback effort but came up short.

Braden Bain lead the Gens with two goals and an assist while Scott Shugg had one of each. Brandon Aab, River Ross were the other Gens snipers. Jordan Marks had two assists and Chris Sambrook, Caden Chadleigh and Takuro Okada each had one.

Erik Garber made 29 saves for Gens, earning his eighth win of the season.

The Gens broke a 2-2 tie in overtime to win in the first meeting of the clubs on Oct. 7. The two teams meet two more times in the regular season with both games being played here in Cochrane.

The Gens snapped the Copperheads 11-game winning streak with Saturday night's win while extending their own to six games.

Barn Burner Tomorrow against Bisons

You can count on a barn burner tomorrow night (Jan. 8) when the Okotoks Bisons are in town for a rare Tuesday night game.

The Gens win against the Copperheads not only strengthens their hold on third, but it also keeps their second place aspirations alive to slide past the Bisons. This makes Tuesday’s game particularly important for both teams.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
