It's two and out for the High River Flyers.

The Cochrane Generals wrapped up the best-of-three series two straight on the road last night against the Flyers, 3-1, and are now preparing to meet the Okotoks Bisons in the semifinals of the HJHL south division.

Gens head coach Travis McMillan anticipates the best-of-seven series will open Friday night on the road in Okotoks. The series schedule should be out shortly.

Last night, the Flyers couldn't stay out of the penalty box, racking up 22 minutes in penalties in the final two periods alone. The Gens cleaned up their play for those periods after escaping the first period in a 0-0 tie while players served 14 minutes in the cooler.

The game was in a 1-1 deadlock until Brandon Aab scored the game-winner from Braden Bain and Chris Sambrook on a powerplay early in the third. Aab scored an empty-netter from Caden Chudleigh to seal the deal with 1:54 remaining in the period.

Chris Sambrook scored the Gens first goal from Brandon Aab just 12 seconds after the Flyers hit the scoreboard first.

Erik Garber got the start for the Gens and turned away 24 of 25 shots. The Flyers Chantz Vinck was busier but put in a solid performance while facing 44 shots.

Taylor Girard was out for a one-game suspension for his third fight of the season in game one of the series. He's back for the Okotoks series. River Ross is day-to-day after suffering a concussion in the team's last matchup against the Coaldale Copperheads.

The upcoming series could potentially go the distance. The Bisons squeezed ahead of the Gens in the standings but the Gens won the regular season matchup between the two teams by the closest of margins.

The first place Coaldale Copperheads enter the south division playoffs in a semifinal matchup against the Medicine Hat Cubs.
