The Cochrane Generals ended the season as the hottest team in the south division, but it may not be enough to finish higher than third in the standings.

With four seconds left on the clock, Brandon Aab lifted the Gens to a 3-2 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs, Feb. 10. Aab earned first star honours after scoring two of the Gens three goals and assisting on the third, scored by Talus Hume.

That temporarily leaves the Gens in first with 49 points on the season, 24 wins, 11 losses and an overtime loss. Both the Okotoks Bisons and Coaldale Copperheads are one point behind before and play their final games later today. If either or both Strathmore of Medicine Hat pull off upsets, the Gens will claim one of the byes up for grab in the Heritage Junior Hockey League playoff structure.

The Cubs jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first and the Gens spent the rest of the night playing catchup. Aab scored with 58 seconds left in the first to give them a much-needed break. The game was tied at two after Talus Hume scored from Braden Bain.

The game may have been low scoring but there was no shortage of offence by the Gens. The Cubs Josh Breznik stood on his head and turned away 62 shots.
