The Medicine Hat Cubs rebounded from an overwhelming loss here with a 2-1 win over the Cochrane Generals last night to force a third and deciding game at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

The puck drops tonight, Sun. Feb. 18, at 5:30 p.m. to determine who will advance to the semifinals in the Heritage Junior Hockey League's south division. Last night, the Cubs took a 1-0 lead into the third and held on to win, 2-1, at the Kinplex in Medicine Hat.

Cubs' goalie Josh Breznik stole the night after facing a barrage of shots from the Gens. He kept them off the scoreboard until Braden Bain was fed the puck by Jarod Domingo to solved the riddle early in the third to tie the score. The Cubs' Jesse Barsness scored the winner with 3:32 remaining in regulation.

Breznik stood tall in a brilliant performance that saw him turn away an incredible 80 of 81 shots. The Gens defence allowed only 25 shots on Knute Loe.

Winner of tonight's game advances to the semifinals against the Okotoks Bisons, who secured a bye from the first round with a second place finish in the south.

The Gens won the first game of the series on home ice Thursday night, 17-0.

In the other quarterfinal series, the High River Flyers downed Strathmore, 5-1 and 4-1, to advance to a semifinal matchup against the Coaldale Copperheads.
