A second information night is set for tomorrow evening (May 25) at Rival Boxing Gym in Cochrane at 7pm.

The boxing studio is hosting its first annual K.O charity fundraiser this fall, raising awareness and funds for testicular cancer research.

One of Rival's long time members Matt Roberts has literally fought for his life and now that he has been given the a-okay, Rival wants to give back in a unique way. The gym is offering a ten week training camp for anyone over 18 years of age who may be interested in boxing in the charity fight night.

Anne Garrido, Rival Boxing Coach, says this second info night is for anyone who attended the April 27 meeting as well as anyone new who would like to be involved. The evening will provide valuable information on what to expect, registration and medical forms, as well as important dates. Garrido, adds businesses are also invited to attend to learn about sponsorship opportunities.

"Not everybody's going to be a fighter; some people may participate by donating money or volunteering to help raise the money. Some businesses may choose to sponsor a fighter or they can sponsor the event and have their name on the side of the ring; there are different options for them to participate."

Training camp will be ongoing beginning in early June with amateur boxers receiving enough training to prepare them for a night in the ring. " We're not here to hurt anyone, or have anyone get hurt. The training camp is in order to increase the cardio capacity so they can sustain the intensity also punching the bag. It is a full body workout, high paced, cardio based; definitely someone new to it is going to see some very big changes in their shape, body composition, and everything."

Proceeds from the charity fun night will go towards Oneball Charitable Cancer Organization which raises awareness, funds critical research, and promotes early diagnosis.

Rival is hoping to raise $25,000 from the event.
