Cochrane's most loved footrace the 18th annual Footstock will be taking place this weekend (June 3 and 4).

Drawing more participants this year, Meredith McMorran, Race Co-Chair is looking forward to this year's event.

"Things are great, our numbers are above last year's numbers which is very exciting. We have the half marathon back this year so that is another thing we are really happy about. We have had lots of people comment on missing the half marathon; after the floods we lost that section of the race but things are back. We've got a beautiful selection of race courses for our various races and it should be awesome this year."

McMorran was a little worried a couple weeks ago when volunteers were down, but she says once again the Cochrane community has really rallied around them. "Two weeks ago it still looked like we had a 100 positions to fill we're down to 10 because once again people in Cochrane have come through for us and it makes us so excited to put on the race here and that the town is really behind us."

While there is no financial goal of Footstock, the past few years the Footstock board has been able to put funds back into the Cochrane community, supporting organizations that are a good match. "We really do tend to make donations to the same groups  year after year just because I think there are some very obvious needs like the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank, the Morley Food Bank. Then some others that are really in line with getting people involved in healthy physical activity so we also support Jumpstart and Rock the Waves. We try to spread it around."

Footstock will once again be held at the Lions rodeo grounds with participants competing in a 5 km, 10 km, duathlon, kids triathlon, and half marathon. Drivers are asked to use caution this weekend and be mindful of racers. If you would like to still volunteer, you can email footstockrwc@gmail.com to sign up.
