It was another good week to be Dillon Dube.

The Kelowna Rockets player ended his last regular season in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with two honours and played a key role in the team's surge to finish first in the British Columbia Conference of the elite junior hockey league.

On Mar. 18, Dube was named the recipient of in the inaugural President's Award in recognition of outstanding and significant achievements with the team. It's not an award that will necessarily be presented annually, rather when it's warranted.

In the case of Dube, he became the first Kelowna Rockets player ever to earn a spot on the Canadian World Junior roster in back-to-back seasons. After winning silver in 2017, he went on to captain the 20-18 edition that won the gold medal. Dube was also the captain of Team WHL in the Canada/Russia Series in which he tied a WHL record for points in the series with five in two games (two goals, three assists). He was named the Player of the Game in game two of that series.

He has also appeared in the WHL playoffs in all four seasons with the Rockets and was a member of the 2015 Rockets team that won the WHL championship and went on to be a Memorial Cup finalists.

WHL Player of the Week

One day later, Dube was named the WHL's player of the week.

Dube recorded seven points (4 goals, three assists) and had a plus-five rating in two games this past week as the Rockets closed out their regular season on a five-game winning streak, helping them clinch their seventh B.C. Division title in franchise history.

In their division-clinching game Wednesday at Prospera Place against the Prince George Cougars, Dube recorded a pair of goals and three points in the Rockets’ 6-3 victory, scoring two for the Rockets at even strength. Playing in the Rockets’ home and season finale Saturday against the Vancouver Giants, Dube recorded a pair of goals and four points in an 8-1 victory. Saturday’s efforts were good enough to earn first star honours in the game.

The strong performances helped Dube end his career season on a high, with 84 points (38 goals, 46 assists) in 53 games. Dube has added nine power-play goals, three short-handed goals and seven game-winning goals, setting career-highs those three figures as well.

Top seeding in the B.C. conference sees the Rocket matched up against the Tri-City Americans in a best-of-seven series that opens Thursday night in Kelowna. The Americans punched their ticket by securing a wild-card spot.
