For those currently registered in BMX, or interested in joining, Jersey Day is being held at the track tonight (April 27).

Brad Christensen, President of the Cochrane BMX Club, says as long as the snow stays away, the evening provides the opportunity to try on jerseys, check out the track and answer any questions you have regarding the upcoming season. "Just a little bit of an introduction to get going here before we get our track construction going."

Membership is once again strong for the growing club, surpassing last year's at this time. "We had a really good kick off, so that is a really good improvement. We are expecting to grow and we'll know more in the next month probably."

While Christensen was hoping to see work start on track work this weekend it may still be a week out."I am thinking the second week of May hopefully we would get on the track if not earlier, as long as Mother Nature wants to cooperate over the next little while. We want the kids to get back on the bikes and get going."

This year race nights will once again occur on Monday and Wednesday evenings, as well as, a Friday four night series throughout summer for bragging rites between Airdrie, Okotoks, Calgary, and Cochrane.

There are some really strong riders throughout Alberta, shares Christensen, and Cochrane is making a name for itself. "We are definitely making some noise. It is great to see some of our younger, local riders really growing in age, experience, and skill at the same time; it is fun to see."

Jersey Day runs from 6-7:30 pm this evening. If you can't make tonight, Alberta BMX Day will be held on May 28 providing another great opportunity to check out the track, test out some loaner equipment, and register for the season.
