There may be snow on the ground but pros at the Links are already preparing to tee off.

Riley Boothby, Assistant Pro at the Links of GlenEagles, shares the 'Junior Academy Program' keeps growing each season with youth who are keen to learn the sport. "In 2012, there were good numbers but we're exceeding that a lot; I don't know if it's the Cochrane population or just if junior golfers is more appealing because there are more options (nine-hole courses) and it's actually more affordable than some other sports."

Beginning in May a series of 4 week long camps designed for beginner and intermediate golfers will run, while six one day camps have also been added to the roster. "That is where we have been lacking in past years, we have an introduction for beginners but there is no real progression to keep them golfing so we have a one day camp where kids who are more serious about it we have a three hour camp, six times, throughout summer to keep the junior golfers playing and grow the game of golf."

While registration is currently open to returning players, Boothby shares all programs usually fill up before the end of February. There are three pros committed to running the Academy but they will outsource others so kids don't miss out on playing.
