Cochrane's Mason Raymond has earned his second gold medal in the Spengler Cup as part of Canada's National Men's team.

The veteran NHLer, turned Team Canada and Swiss National League player, scored a powerplay goal in the opening matchup against the Mountfield HK of the Czech Republic, a team they would meet again and eliminate in the semifinals. He also picked up an assist.

The team went on to claim a 3-0 shutout in the finals against Switzerland on New Year's Eve.

For Canada, it's their third straight Spengler Cup and 15th overall. It ties them with HC Davos with the most cup victories and draws them closer to their four-cup winning streak of 1995-98.

After his nine-year career in the NHL that ended with the Anaheim Ducks early season, Raymond has played for Canada's national men's team and joined SC Bern of the Swiss National League this season. In 546 NHL regular season games, he accumulated 115 goals and 136 assists. In 63 post-season games, largely with the Vancouver Canucks, he scored eight goals and had 17 assists.

He did appear in the seven-game Stanley Cup final with the Canucks against the eventual champions, the Boston Bruins, in 2011. He was knocked out of the series in game six in the first period after receiving a controversial hit from Johnny Boychuk that left him in a Boston hospital with a vertebrae compression fracture.

His next stop could be the 2018 Winter Olympics. Hockey Canada says the roster will be named later this week. The NHL has denied the rights of their active players to participated in the Olympics and several former NHLers have joined the national teams of their respective countries.
