Thumbs were up high for the relocation of Cochrane's darts tournament that attracted hundreds of people to town over the weekend.

Whether they were from B.C.'s Okanagan, northern or central Alberta, the feedback was positive for the first major event held at the newly-dubbed Cochrane Lions Events Centre on 5th Ave.

The 3rd annual Shoot on the Bow saw over 200 players involved in men's and women's singles as well as men's, women's and mixed doubles events. Organizer Ellison Smith believes they could attract even more with a little bit of sponsor.

"We want to keep growing it. What we'd like to see is some of the businesses in town sponsor us a little bit, that way we can raise some of the payouts for events and that will attracts even more players," says Smith.

Right now 90 per cent of the entry fees are paid out and that could be raised to 100 per cent if they find sponsorship to offset tournament costs. At the tournament, a first place finish earned the winner between $300 and $600. There are other payouts, of course, including a joint fifth

Smith says they hope to continue using the events centre in the future.

"This has been excellent," says Smith. "It's so spacious and that's what everybody likes; they hate being crowded in, especially on a hot day like today. It really opens it up and it's been relatively comfortable in here today," he said on Sunday.

Smith says the tournament is going to continue to be held on the third weekend in June.
