Members of the Cochrane Cowboys will soon be on the mats for the 2018-19 wrestling season.

First, though, an information night is being held on Sunday, Oct. 21 at the multipurpose room of the SLS Family Sports Centre.

Those interested in having their youth join the club are asked to be there at 7 p.m. Coaches and board members will explain the sport, the club’s structure and schedule, fundraising and the need for parents to volunteer.

They’ll also explain what’s involved in attending tournaments and will provide a brief overview of the tournament being hosted by the club next March.

“It will be a fun night as well with some games and prizes, and our annual wrestling shoe swap,” says Bree Adam, Cowboys registrar. “We’re looking forward to starting up another fun and action-packed season!”

The Cowboys are an all-inclusive, nationally ranked and dedicated wrestling club for girls and boys, ages 7 to 17. Their goal is to grow responsible athletes who above all respect others, know the value of hard work, teamwork and dedication and follow a model of honour and sportsmanship.

The Cowboys have groomed many provincial, national and international medalists over the years and have a team of dedicated and experienced coaches to teach the dynamics and etiquette of the sport.

They were the top-ranked Alberta wrestling club in Alberta for both 2014 and 2015 and have been ASAA Provincial Champions 18 times.

Over the years its wrestlers have earned 16 medals at the Canadian National Championships and four of their wrestlers have gone on to represent Canada on the international stage. Many have also earned university scholarships.
