The Cochrane Generals extended their winning streak to six games after beating the High River Flyers at home on Saturday night and Medicine Hat Cubs appears to have forfeited two points for a Sunday game that never happened, although there's no official word from the league at this point.

High River scored first but it was pretty much all Gens after that. They scored five unanswered goals before the Flyers ruffled the mesh twice late in the second. The Gens added two more to take a 7-3 lead before the Flyers responded with a powerplay goal with just over a minute left in regulation.

The game featured a three-goal, one-assist performance by Braden Bain. Harry Osler also registered a four-point outing, scoring once and setting up three others. Colton Wong, Jordan Fisher and Jarod Domingo rounded out the scoring.

Knute Loe stopped 27 of 31 shots for his eighth win and has yet to be beaten in 2018.

Sunday's game didn't happen and it's a bit of a head-scratcher. The Cubs arrived at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre with nine players and the game was on again, off again. Gens players waited in the lobby after getting back into their civies until they got word the Cubs were heading home.

Still, the Heritage Junior Hockey League has not posted the win in favour of the Gens and we are awaiting the official word from league officials.

Should that game be behind them, the Gens have played their last regular season home game of the season. All that remains are two on the road this weekend against the Strathmore Wheatland Kings and Medicine Hat Cubs. By rights, the Gens should be in second, one point up on the Coal Copperheads, but Coaldale has a game in-hand. The Copperheads are closing out the season with three games this weekend, starting Friday night at home against the Flyers followed by a home-and-home finale with the Kings.

A win by the Okotoks Bisons in their final game against the Cubs will assure Cochrane's long-time nemesis of first.

As predicted by head coach Derek Donald a few weeks back, exactly where the Gens finish won't be known until the final buzzer goes this weekend because of the parity between the top three teams.

Still, the Gens are the hottest team in the south division. Their run of late is only surpassed by the Red Deer Vipers' 10-game winning streak in the north division.
