The Cochrane Chaos had to fight back to tie the Irma Chargers, 1-1, in their Oct. 6 matchup at Totem One.

The Chargers opened the scoring in the first and after a scoreless second, Aspen Kozak put the Chaos on the scoreboard from Cochrane’s Kyla Kruger to tie the game earlier in the third.

A five-minute overtime solved nothing.

Chaos goalie Manon Tetrault faced 45 shots. Here she stifles Dallas Kot, of the Chargers. It was a much different game than the 8-0 win for the Chaos in their season opener against the Lethbridge Eagles a week earlier, but the brand of hockey was much better says Chaos head coach Derek Loomer.

“I think this was actually a better game,” says Loomer. “I think Irma is just a better team and play a fairly structured game. Our girls played better this week than last week, they just didn’t get the same outcome.”

The Chaos once again came out sluggish in the early going but pick up momentum.

“Our depth started to take over deeper into the game and we had a lot more opportunities and managed to score a goal. They have a fantastic goalie. She’s really tough to score on and we had to make the most of the opportunities we had.”

While it’s early in the season, the team will focus on coming out harder from the get-go.

“We’ve talked about that and we’re trying to find ways to make them better prepared for that first drop of the puck.”

The Chaos are on the road for the next three weekends and won’t be back here until November. This weekend, they head north to face the Edmonton Wolves, followed by a rematch against the Irma Chargers.

“It will be two really good tests playing against that higher level of competition and will challenge the girls.”

Then it’s south to Lethbridge, Oct. 21 before another challenging weekend against the defending league champion Sherwood Park Steele and Fort Saskatchewan Fury.

“We have a big stretch here that could be defining our season a little bit.”
