Rival Boxing Gym will be putting on a great event for a great cause.

The evening event 'KO Cancer' is a first for the local boxing studio and for Cochrane. Twenty six average Cochranites are wrapping their hands, putting on gloves, and getting in the ring to raise money for the charitable organization 'One Ball' to support testicular cancer research.

Matt Roberts is a long time boxer of Rival Boxing and a testicular cancer survivor; Rival decided that once Roberts was given the a-okay that the event would go forward to support a cancer not commonly talked about.

Anne Garrido, Rival Boxing Coach, says everything is coming together for the September 9 event. "Everybody is super excited and everyone is progressing fast; it's going to be a really great event to watch."

The amateur boxers will be in the best shape of their lives by the time they get in the ring. "They are going through two aspects; they are going through fitness of course they have to build their fitness level to be in shape to fight and then we build the basic fundamentals of boxing, so they have the boxing class and the fitness class. If they commit to it they will be in the best shape of their lives."

Fourteen boxing bouts will take place at the Cochrane Lions Events Centre, and Garrido is hoping the event is a sell out. "The max capacity of the Lion's Club, we want a full house." The venue holds roughly 700 people and Garrido is hopeful Cochranites pack the house and cheer on the boxers, while enjoying food and refreshments from main sponsor Half Hitch Brewery.

Tickets are selling quickly and it is each fighters' responsibility to sell out as part of their commitment.

Garrido shares it is important to know there will be no ticket sales at the door. If you would like to pick up your $35 ticket and are unsure who is boxing, you can contact Rival at 403-370-2109.
