The Cochrane Piranhas last regular season swim meet was not only well attended but well executed.

Making a splash in Canmore this past weekend (July 27 and 28), fourty-nine Piranhas continued to hit new personal best times and challenge themselves in distance.

Breanna Hendriks, Head Coach, shares despite it being the fourth swim meet in a row the swimmers did well and a few even conquered new feats. "By Saturday afternoon they were pretty tired but we had lots of best times and we had a few kids do some first-ever races. Aaron Swedlo and Quinn Fitzsimmons did their first ever 1500 metre race."

Even though it was the last regular meet of the season, Hendriks was excited to see the swimmers challenge themselves without any prompting. "We built them up so they did the 400 and then they did the 800 a couple meets ago at Triton and then they were ready to do 1500. They chose it and I am proud of them."

The swimmers may see a reprieve from meets but the hard work continues as regionals at Repsol Centre are only two weeks away (August 11 and 12). "They are hanging in there by a thread. This week, especially for the older kids it's all hard workouts; they get a good break on the weekend and then early next week is going to be harder, longer sets so we get that volume in and then we'll start to do lots of sprinting so they are ready to go."

The entire Piranhas coaching team wishes all regional racers good luck as they make strides to reach their own goals. "All the kids have different goals; some kids want to just be there to have fun, get personal bests and improve their ranking while the other side of the coin is those who want to go out there and want to make provincials. They are gunning for it and will probably stress a little bit but we try and keep them relaxed and focusing on what needs to be done in order to achieve their goals."
