There's a special place in the heart of the Rocky View Jr. 'B' Silvertips for Number Three.

This Friday night the team will be remembering an inspiring player at the Jordan McKinnon Memorial Game at the SLS Family Sports Centre.

Jordan died suddenly at the age of 18 last September and even at a young age his first love was lacrosse. He was known as a fierce competitor and pushed the limit for every team he played, including the Silvertips. He was looked up to by both his teammates and by his coaches.

Silvertips coach Cam Foss remembers him well and says his spirit will live on through the Silvertips.

"He was one of our assistant captains, just a heart and soul kid, someone you always wanted to be around, someone you're always happy to see at the rink," says Foss. "He was always the hardest working kid and always there to help out his teammates."

The Silvertip's will be retiring McKinnon's Number Three jersey and honouring him and his family at the game.

Since the start of the season they have also been recognizing the player of the game with a special lacrosse stick that was Jordan's.

"Jordan always played with a wooden stick and it was really long and he was really good with it," explains Foss. "So we got one of his first lacrosse sticks and cut it down and engraved it with Jordan's name and number and now we've been giving that out to the player of the game. We've been doing that every game to keep his memory alive."

The Tips will be challenging the first place Shamrocks in the game and Foss believes the team is getting stronger as the season progresses. Some of their key offensive players have returned from school and that has added more depth.

"The Shamrock are the first place team in league, but I think we match up well against them," says Foss. "We've had two weeks of  good practices and the league is so tight this year. We played the Shamrock really tough earlier in the year when we were missing a few of key players."

"We're just building as a team so we're going to have a really good game Friday."

After a slow start, the Tips won their first game of the season against the Saskatchewan SWAT in overtime last Friday night here in Cochrane on a a goal by Matt Dyck and they lost a close one to the Red Deer Rampage two days later.

"We're looking forward to going into the last half of the season," says Foss.

Game time is 8 p.m.
