The U16 Cochrane Ringette team hit the road, taking in the Wild Things Tournament in Edmonton this weekend and returning with some silver hardware.

The tournament consisted of three round robin games with the top two teams going on to play in the gold medal game.  The Rockies lost first game to Leduc 3-5, then went on to easily beat Medicine Hat 9-3. Another 4-1 win over St. Albert had the ladies meeting up with Leduc again in the final, where it was a hard loss of 8-4.

Jason Novak, Cochrane Rockies, Head Coach, says the girls did extremely well considering they went up to Edmonton with a roster of only 8 skaters and a goalie. He said because of having such a small club the girls play well as a team.

"Typically you play against teams that have rosters of 12-15 players, so they (the players) really exceeded my expectations. We played competitively in our first game and easily won our second."

Novak, who also has a daughter playing on the team, says this sport is like an extended family for the girls.

"I have been coaching ringette for 7 years and ringette isn't like any sport I have been around. It is more like an extended family. I have been lucky to be around these ladies since they were 8 years old and it is so nice to watch how they are growing and developing into great people, on and off the ice."
