Cochrane figure skaters had another great showing at their latest competition.

Seven skaters from the Cochrane Skating Club attended the Chinook Open competition last weekend (April 6 and 7) in Lethbridge. The open competition generally sees a strong showing from all over Alberta with clubs attending from Saskatchewan and British Columbia as well.

Coach Karen Allison, shares the STAR 2 and 3 skaters did very well and earn ribbons for their program elements but are not ranked amongst their flight of skaters. "Skaters are awarded at these levels with a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Merit ribbon for their overall program achievement. Our STAR 2 & 3 skaters performed very well in Lethbridge."

In this competition, Allison, says even though they are proud of all performances, a couple skaters really stood out. "We had two STAR 4 skaters achieve podium finishes. Kaitlyn Eiserman who competed in the STAR 4 Under 10 category, finished second and for the first time, this season rotated her axel jump to earn bonus points. She had a clean season-best skate! McKayla Lucic also finished second in the STAR 4,13 and over category."

The Cochrane Skating Club will be wrapping up the regular season with one final competition in Edmonton, April 20-22 at the United Cycle Sunsational Invitational. The competition hosts STAR 4 and higher events and 9 skaters representing Cochrane will be attending.
