St. Tim's Junior track team shows incredible promise.

Travis Cummings, Head Coach, says a record number of athletes took part in the Tier 2 Calgary Catholic Junior High Schools' Track and Field City Championships on June 6. "We had a record 39 athletes, that was almost double the size of our junior high track team from City's last year, which is great."

The team tied a school record and brought home a collection of hardware."We won 24 medals; 9 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals. Multiple athletes, win multiple medals on the day."

Cummings believes the kids have a great shot at winning a City Championship, depending on scoring results."I think we'll be close, but we'll see. There was a couple schools there with 50,60 athletes but they did quite well with 39 kids and 20 or 21 of them came away with top three finishes in at least on of their events. The kids were pretty pumped."

The athletes did well in all disciplines and their dominating performance will bode well for the future of St.Tim's track  program. "We'll have a bumper crop in couple years," shares Cummings.

Pleased with the results of all athletes, Cummings, was pretty happy. "It was overall a banner day for the Theunder, congratulations to all the team on their outstanding efforts."

Twenty kids from the junior high Thunder will be participating in the CALTAF Track Classic June 16-18 at Foothills Stadium serving as the Athletics Alberta Provincial Championships for midget and youth age groups.
