It almost looks like St. Tim's track star Sophia Nowicki is passing her torch to grade 7 runner Holly Moores.

While Nowicki wraps up her final year as one of St. Tim's fastest track stars, Holly Moores is being recognized for her unbelievable natural speed.

Nowicki recently placed first at Divisionals, while Moores blew past her competition at the Calgary Spring Challenge earning her double golds.

Moores, who is new to St. Tim's can't say enough about the running program, her coach Travis Cummings, and her predecessor Sophia Nowicki. "She's a great runner, everyone looks up to her."

Nowicki, says she never imagined she would be someone other runners inspired to be. "It's so weird. There is a lot of people I look up to and a lot of athletes I really idolize and it is really different for me to be one of those people that they look up to. There's a girl Jessica O'Connell and she runs on my club track team and she went to the Rio Olympics I think for the 5000 and to me she is like a God, and it's weird that other people view me like that because to me I 'm not nearly close enough to be that talented."

Nowicki is pleased to know that another strong female is coming up behind her and providing encouragement to other female runners. "For the most part it has been me for the past six years, and so it's nice to see that there is a lot more girls interested in it and it's going to keep going, because I love running and sharing that passion."

Moores has City Championships coming up on June 6 and is hoping to beat her last track time. "I am pretty excited, but also a little nervous. I am trying to beat the time I had last time because I didn't expect to have that great of a time going into my first track race so just trying to beat my personal best on this one."

For Nowicki, she is looking forward to the competition at City's this Saturday (May 27) and knows she will have to work for her win. "I think it's going to be tougher this year which is nice because that kind of gives me like an extra push in my last high school season."

If successful, Nowicki will head to Provincials later this summer before she heads off to the U of L this fall to study nursing.
