The St. Tim's Thunder senior girls field hockey team have won silver in the City Championship after an intense final against the Bishop Grandin Ghosts, June 6.

The game was in 0-0 deadlock until pressure from the Ghosts lead to a goal with about two minutes left in play. They went into a defensive shell to protect the lead and prevented the Thunder from garnering any solid scoring opportunities before the buzzer went.

"It looks like we just ran out of steam in the second half," says Thunder coach Michael Arsenault. "It was a very close game."

Despite this, the Thunder continues to a rising star in the Calgary Senior High Athletic Association. They made the jump to tier 2 from tier 3 this season and were undefeated until the final. With about a third of their players in grade 10, they have a strong core of players coming up through the ranks for next season.

The Thunder have made the City Championship for the last three consecutive seasons and won in 2015.

At the heart of the matter is the goal to continue to build girl athletic sports at St. Tim's, explains Arsenault.

"It's all about building the legacy and building the tradition of female sports at St. Tim's," he says.
