Cochrane's Tristan Walker and teammates have found some redemption with a silver medal performance today at the PyeongChang Olympics and have produced Canada's best ever luge result.

Considered a medal contender, they became the team to beat with a total time of 2:24.872 and vibrated with excitement knowing they had been assured a medal. It took a track record time of 2:24.517 by the German team to drop the Canadians to silver.

The medal performance is the breakthrough the team has been seeking. It's also a little redemption for their fourth-place finish in 2012. A member of the third place Russian team had been caught doping but retained their bronze medal after it went to arbitration before the International Olympic Committee.

Emotions were high for the Canadian relay team members that also includes Justin Snith, Alex Gough and Sam Edney.

“We’ve been working this past quad with the heartbreak of Sochi," says Walker, "and to finally capitalize not only bronze but silver – amazing,”

His doubles partner Justin Snith knew when they crossed the finish line something special had just happened.

“There’s a break between punching the clock at the end there and knowing where you finish, and as soon as I saw my teammates celebrating it was just like the biggest weight off my shoulders, especially after a long four years.”

Canadian flags were waved by supporters in the crowd that included Walker's parents, Bruce and Karen. Bruce could be seen waving the signed flag from Cochrane supporters in the television coverage of the event.

The silver medal is Canada's second in luge in PyeongChang following Alex Gough's bronze medal performance in the women's event.
