Cochrane's Dillon Dube had a two-point night in the opening game of the CIBC Canada/Russia junior hockey tournament, Nov. 7, in Moose Jaw, SK.

Team WHL walked away with a 7-0 win over the Russians in the series that pits our nation's best Canada Hockey League (CHL) players against a Russian select team and in game one it was all WHL.

Team captain Dube stepped in and scored with just under five minutes remaining in the third to plug Team WHL'sseventh goal. Earlier he set up a goal for Tyler Steenburgen late in the second period. He finished the night with a +2.

The WHL squad only gets two cracks at the Russian team and play game two tonight, Nov. 7, in Swift Current. The Russians then go east to play two games each against Ontario and Quebec major junior teams.

It's the third time Dube has been invited to play in the tournament and the first time he has been healthy enough to lace up. The WHL named the Flames signee captain in the lead up to the tournament.

This tournament is also another testing ground for potential players for Team Canada's entry into the IIHF junior world hockey championship, being hosted by Buffalo, NY starting on Boxing Day, Dec. 26.  The team roster will be announced in early December.

Dube played for Team Canada last year in their IIHF silver medal performance.
