Cochrane peewee hockey player Ty Barry is among the 160 players who will be lacing up for the Hockey Alberta Peewee Prospect Cup in Lethbridge, May 8 1o 12.

Ty, 12, will be playing for the South Yellow team in the eight-team tournament featuring top peewee prospects across Alberta. They open the tournament against Calgary White.

"I really excited and I'm honoured to have been chosen for the Prospects Cup," says Ty.

"It's a really good opportunity to play with some great players and have fun with it."

The forward is in his fifth year with Cochrane Minor Hockey and joined in novice. Last season he played for the Bow Valley 'AA' Peewee Timberwolves.

"When I first joined hockey I really enjoyed being on the ice. It was fun for me."

Among his favourite moments so far was winning the banner with his teammates in the first year of atoms.

Darcy, his dad, says to say they are excited is an understatement.

"We're pretty proud of the little guy for working so hard."

Rosters were selected after four regional camps held Apr. 12-14. Barry participated in the Olds camp.

The Peewee Prospects Cup program is the first step of the Hockey Alberta Development program and is held in off years of the Alberta Winter Games. It provides second-year peewee athletes, coaches, trainers and administrators with an opportunity to discover the qualities of competitive hockey in a well-organized regional camp and select team competition.
