Martin Parnell's training was going great up until last week.

The Guinness World Record setter was feeling good and looking forward to tapering, however, after feeling a pinch in his right leg Parnell has ceased all running for now. "I managed to get 40km in, I wanted to do 100 but it just didn't happen. I had to stop half way through the second run and just say no don't push it."

Luckily for Parnell, he managed to do a majority of his training injury free."The silver lining on this cloud is I managed to get over 700km in of training, I did 5 weeks of the 100km and that 6th week was going to be the final week, so I am going with the fact that I got the bulk of the training in and so now is the time to not push it."

Parnell will spend this next week cross training by spending time in the pool and focusing on a good stretching routine; which is this week's fit tip.

"It has been the bane of my life. Stretching doesn't excite me but it's absolutely critical, if you are going to run. I don't tend to stretch before I run, I don't do cold stretching I basically warm up as I start my run, but once you're finished do a little bit of a stretching routine. Stretch the calves out, the quads out, absolutely critical and it's certainly a lesson for me even after all these years."

With eleven days to go, Parnell is hopeful he caught the injury in time. " I think if I had pushed it on that particular run on last Wednesday and done the 40km instead of stopping at 20km which I did, I could have caused some major issues. I think I nipped it in the bud, only time will tell; I think if I can get this treated and rest up at least I can give it a shot for the big race."

One way to raise Parnell's spirits is to see his fundraising efforts go up. Currently sitting at $4566 of his $10,000 goal, Parnell shares the push is on."We still have a ways to go so we could use some help, two weeks to go and things are ramping up."
