Maybe by the time Martin Parnell is done training warm weather will roll in.

The Marathon Man has arrived at his last 100km week and Parnell is looking forward to easier runs as he prepares to run 150km on May 27. Parnell says in week four he had to get creative in order to get his distance in, "it was the case of sort of fitting in the 100km during the week which I did."

This is Parnell's sixth week of running 100km, and the experienced marathoner says he can't wait to taper.

"I'm pushing to the end here of the 100k's and when that Sunday run is done, I will be backing off for the final two weeks before the big key event.  These last two weeks it really doesn't matter from the terms of training, the training is done, at the end of this week no matter what I do in the last two weeks it really won't impact on the race other than I don't want to get injured. They're going to be really nice 10k, 20k just to keep the legs loose and head toward the start line."

After last week's generous donation , Parnell is sitting at $4436 of his now $10,000 goal and he reminds people any amount will help (you can donate here). "Fifty dollars gives a child a Right To Play program for a year, so let's see what we can do."

As far as this week's fit tip, Parnell says keep track of what you do. " I highly recommend you keep a log of your running. All you need is a watch, you can record if you head out for a 15 minutes out, 15 minutes back walk/run, write down the temperature, the weather, how you're feeling, that's the basics. If you are really enjoying it go to the next level and that is get a piece of equipment to track your distance, keep track of your pace and another step forward is using a heart rate monitor. The whole area of keeping a diary and then keeping track of what you do, is very important when you're feeling down; with anything we try if you don't measure it, you really don't know how you're doing."

If you are looking for something to do this weekend (May 13,14) you can stop by the YYC Fitness Expo at the Stampede Gardens and say hi to Martin, who on Saturday will be part of a panel discussion on Guinness World records.
