In just over two weeks Martin Parnell has already put 300 kilometres on his new runners.

Parnell is gearing up to run another 100km this week as he prepares to hit the startline of the Calgary 150km Marathon on May 27; with just over a month of training left it is crucial that Parnell keeps up with his training regime.

"We've got 5 weeks to go and so the clock is ticking. I've got three more weeks of this 100k a week and then I taper for the last two weeks; so if I can hang in there and get the mileage in without getting injured then it's the best I can do. Is it enough? I don't know"

A boost to Parnell's spirits would be to see his fundraising dollars go up. For the last couple weeks, Parnell says the needle has not moved and remains stagnant on $1350.

"It is always a challenge and I understand that there's lots of different organizations to support but with Right To Play they do such a great job of helping kids around the world, kids who are in very disadvantaged situations so $50 gives a child a Right To Play program for a year."

While Parnell isn't overly worried yet, he would love to see some growth this week. "So if they go to my website www.martinparnell.com and hit the big red doante button that would be phenomenal. That support would really go a long way."

Parnell says his fit tip of the week is for aspiring runners to join a running club.

"This is a big one. In Cochrane we have an amazing club, Cochrane Red Rock Runners Club, and they meet every Saturday morning down at Coffee Traders so if you want to get to know some of the running community that is a great way to start. Once you get going and once you start doing your run/walk and then you want to give yourself a bit of a challenge maybe a 5k or 10k join a club. By joining a club you will meet people who you can get a lot of information from very quickly and it will really help you when it comes to the whole world of running."

This week Martin hopes Mother Nature is a tad more cooperative as he hits the trails, bringing his total kilometres to date to 580.
