With their regular season over, the Rocky View Silvertips Jr. 'B' team is gearing up for a best-of-three semifinal series against the Calgary Chill that starts this Friday at the Brentwood Arena.

The Silvertips ended their Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL) regular season with a 12-9 loss to the north division-leading Edmonton Warriors, 12-9, at the SLS Family Sports Centre, July 15.

The Tips took a 5-3 lead into the second period but were unable to contain the offensive drives of the Warriors. Though the Tips wrinkled the mesh two more times in the second, the period belonged to the Warriors. The Warriors surged back to tie the game, 7-7, then take a 9-7 lead courtesy of two short-handed goals within 10 seconds around the 4-minute mark.

The Warriors tallied three more to the Tips' two in the third.

It has been a breakthrough season for the Silvertips and their 11-7 record put them just behind the Chill in the central division standings.

"It's one of our best records in probably eight or nine years that I remember, maybe even longer," says Silvertips manager Todd Halliday.  "So we're pretty fortunate to have a pretty exciting squad this year."

"We were neck-and-neck with the Chill all through the season," says Halladay. "We had them up front and then we slipped a little bit in the second half of the season and they came on a bit stronger."

Game two of the series is here in Cochrane on Saturday and the start time is being finalized.

"It's going to be a fun matchup and we always have good games with them. We've had a rivalry for years, so our boys should be excited going into Friday night."

Adding a little bit of drama to the matchup is Silvertips goalie Aidan PIncombe, whom the Tips acquired from the Chill earlier in the season.

"We traded for Aidan earlier in the season and I'm sure he'll be excited to meet up against his old team."

The winner of the series plays the Red Deer Rampage, who only lost one game all season at the hands of the Silvertips.
