Vipers Constrict Generals

The Cochrane Generals Jr. ‘B’ team lost on the road to the Red Deer Vipers, Oct. 13.

The defending Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) champions won 5-3 after taking a comfortable 3-1 lead in the first. The Gens scored one goal in each period.

Vance Wesley, Takuro Okada and River Ross all had a two-point game, with rookies Wesley and Okada scoring their first goals as Gens. River Ross assisted on both.

Harry Osler scored from Brandon Aab to round out the Gens scoring.

Erik Garber kicked out 29 shots.

The Vipers are in search of their third consecutive HJHL title but the hottest team in the league remains the Airdrie Techmation Thunder, who are undefeated in their first nine games.

Another three-game weekend

The Gens have a three-game weekend ahead and are at home for two of them.

Friday they’re in Medicine Hat to face the Cubs before returning to the Cochrane Arena for a rematch with the Vipers on Saturday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. Sunday they welcome the newly-formed Lomond Lakers at 7 p.m.

Cochrane Chaos 1-1 on Weekend

On a northern road trip this weekend, the Cochrane Chaos junior female team went 1-1 in two close games.

The Chaos overcame the Edmonton Wolves, 2-1, on Saturday. Sunday the Irma Chargers once again edged out the Chaos, 4-3, to win the season series between the two teams.

Undefeated in their first five games, the Chargers are number one in the north division. In the south, the Chaos are third, one point behind the Central Alberta Amazons, but have a game in hand.

The Chaos head south this weekend for a rematch with the Lethbridge Eagles. They round out the month by heading north to take on the Sherwood Park Steele and Fort Saskatchewan Fury.

The next home game is Nov. 2 against the newly-formed Calgary Jag. Former Chaos Jenna Wasylik, of Cochrane, has joined the Jag this season.
