The Women's Grizzlies rugby team kicked off their season Friday on the road against the Okotoks Lions and the season is now going full tilt.

The Women's Grizzlies team played their first game of the season last Friday and have an extensive schedule ahead of them this summer. More are welcome to join the team.Formed last year, the club continues to grow as more and more women joined, especially graduating players from local high schools.

Still, club member Emily Carter says there's always room for more to join the team and welcome all interested women.

The Griz played 7s against the Lions and while they had a strong bench with several subs, the ambition is to be able to play 10s or 15s.

"We have girls from all different groups and schools, so we're trying to get out as many girls as possible," says Carter.

The team practices regularly on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Mitford Park.

The Griz now have regularly-scheduled games for the next four Fridays before taking a brief break and resuming the season in mid-July.

Most of the games are at the Calgary Rugby Union and their home opener is on June 15 at the Mitford Park.
