Tyer Wong's bullet to the high glove side has sent the Lethbridge Hurricanes to the Eastern Final of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Down 4-3 in the third, the 'Canes tied the game with  2:43 left in regulation of game seven on Apr. 18. At the 3:02 mark of overtime, Wong blasted the puck above the outstretched glove of Michael Bullion.

'Canes Captain Wong says it was a seesaw series against the Tigers, who topped the Central Division in the regular season, just ahead of Lethbridge.

"It was a really a back and forth series," says Wong. "The only time a team won two in a row were games two and three when we won a couple. Other than that it was up and down like a rollercoaster. There were a lot of emotional highs and lows."

Early in overtime, the Hurricanes could sense the Tigers' first unit was tired and were able to set up a 3 on 2 that lead to Wong's goal.

"We knew their D were tired and they backed off quite a bit and kind of let us go in. I knew they would be cheating to the outside drop pass so I faked outside to (Jordy) Bellerive and walked down to the middle. They had a forward playing D on the powerplay so he set up a good screen for me and I just ripped it over the glove. Right when I shot it I knew it was in so it was a pretty cool celebration."

Despite being riddled with injuries (five regulars are out of the lineup), the Hurricanes keep finding that extra gear to finish off their opponents.

"We've matured a lot as a team and we're a very close team," says Wong."We're all very tight off the ice and we always have each others backs. Just having that positivity and that brotherhood in the dressing room is what has kept us going."

The Hurricanes now face the Regina Pats, a team some rate as the best in the CHL. It's also the same team that eliminated the Hurricanes last season and that just gives the team a little extra juice to set the record straight.

"They're obvious a great team but I think that if we play the right way we can beat anyone. We're going to have a chip on our shoulder as well because they were the team that eliminated us from the playoffs last year. That was a lot of heartbreak so we've got to find a way to exact some revenge against them. It's a tall task and we've got to be on our best but I'm confident in our team."

The Eastern Final opens on Friday in Regina.
