Registration is open for runners, joggers, and walkers in support of the 37th annual Terry Fox Run.

Lindsay Regier, run organizer is back for the third year and says the Cochrane run keeps gaining momentum. Last year just shy of 180 people participated raising just over $10,000 for cancer research. While no goal for fundraising has been set for 2017, Regier says they always hope to surpass the previous year.

"Last year was a record year for us in terms of people attending, so I think that is a really good sign showing the support for it in the community and I think from there donations will come. Every bit counts, it's all about getting the word out and awareness of cancer research and Terry Fox's cause and I think we are on a really good route for Cochrane."

The best part for Regier is watching this event become revived in the area and knowing that Terry's mission continues to be supported by young and old community members across the country. "We are all sort of nostalgic as Canadians; we grow up doing the run and hearing the story in school and particularly with it being the 150th this year I think it will make us feel really proud as Canadians."

More volunteers are stepping up and the community is really coming together to support the run which is primarily funded by the local area. "it is a really supportive community in Cochrane; there's lots of runners and a strong community."

Registration at 10 am will kick off the September 17 run at Mitford Park followed by a community barbeque at noon. Regier shares hot dogs and treats are free for participants but others are welcome to attend for a donation.
